Procter & Gamble has certainly discovered the power of the “older” consumer – not only as a target market but as the “star” of a commercial. P&G featured a retired couple in a commercial for Tide, and now its Swiffer brand has made celebrities out of a married couple in their 90s who have never acted before.

It’s an encouraging development for those of us who have been urging advertisers to realize where the clout is in the marketplace. Why shouldn’t “older” people buy Swiffer? And star in commercials to endorse it?
